One ketamine trip is absolutely enough to induce chronic DPDR--I have seen it--and let me tell you, it can be as disabling as depression. My anecdotal evidence may not carry much weight but good god it is not worth it.auranthttp://twitter.com/glitchtitsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21605329.post-12165522681936160992012-12-17T13:42:27.440-08:002012-12-17T13:42:27.440-08:00My friend suffers from depression and he has taken...My friend suffers from depression and he has taken a lot of Ketamine. He says it provides for instant relief from his chronic depression, which is a plus over other prescription drugs like Prozac. The only downside of Ketamine he says, is that that you can get a chronic tolerance to the drug.ketamine vialshttp://www.popsnuff.com/very-happy-after-dosing-ketamine-iv-t76.htmlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21605329.post-61700134647797189152012-09-30T07:03:31.494-07:002012-09-30T07:03:31.494-07:00Lsd has been used to treat migraine headaches. By taking lsd you decrease serotonin which helps increase metabolism. You would have to take the right amount of it though. Depression is being in the middle of the Atlantic, surrounded by white pointers, in a leaking boat with no paddles.

Depression is a seriously life threatening problem and I think this drug could be very acceptable to people with serious depression as an alternative to ECT.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21605329.post-14984056398571100402011-11-22T05:10:04.718-08:002011-11-22T05:10:04.718-08:00I am a psychiatrist and have used ketamine with a ...I am a psychiatrist and have used ketamine with a few treatment resistant depressed patients. It does not induce "schizophrenia" or even psychosis. At most it gives the patient a "trip". For example, one reported feeling like he was flying on a rainbow, but realized that it was due to the ketamine. In all the cases I have seen, the experience lasts for about 20 minutes and is experienced as pleasurable. The only problem that we have had is that some people will become more heavily sedated and doze off for about 20 seconds requiring a sternum rub to bring them back to alertness.

I believe that in the coming years, ketamine will have an increasing role as a possible alternative to ECT in acutely suicidal patients with depression as it is a far more patient-friendly experience.

As most people who have been following this knows, however, the problem is that the benefit does not last longer than several days to 1 week. However, this may be enough to get someone through a suicidal crisis.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21605329.post-35047679978488238762010-09-01T21:07:04.612-07:002010-09-01T21:07:04.612-07:00Thanks for the post. I worry about long-term side effects ("schizophrenia," etc.), but untreated depression can be just as bad (or worse!).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21605329.post-2357386373503216232010-09-01T09:31:00.683-07:002010-09-01T09:31:00.683-07:00Anonymous of September 01, 2010 5:53 AM - Access t...Anonymous of September 01, 2010 5:53 AM - Access to the article is free but you have to register at the site. All I can do is ask my own question: Would someone rather be depressed or schizophrenic?

If ketamine is given for more than just a brief acute period, those may be the only two choices.

Ketamine is used to model schizophrenia. There are more than a hundred entries in Medline-PubMed which discuss this. Ketamine blocks NMDA receptors.

Therefore, IMHO, the answer to the "yea or nay" question may be: All in favor of brief, short-term ketamine: The 'yeas' have it. All in favor of long-term: the 'nays' have it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
